Do you like a good story? I know, I know, it’s a rhetorical question – of couse you do… everyone does 🙂
So, let me ask you this, do have have a story about your business that connects your prospects and clients to you? – one that bonds them to you.
I see most businesses get this wrong. For example, why then do most SEO companies tell their story like this:
“Melbourne SEO Services is a leading Australian search engine optimisation (SEO) company providing services tailored to our clients’ unique business needs. We assist clients across the business sector from small businesses to large corporations. Blah Blah Blah…”
Boring! & you’ve heard it all before right?
To really stand out from the crowd you need to do things differently – you need to be unique. Perhaps I can inspire you, here at Melbourne SEO services our story isn’t quite so typical… we never set out to become one of Australia’s leading SEO companies. It kind of just happened. Click play below to hear how we got started.
How about you? What’s your story? How’d you get started? Post your comments below and start to build a story that makes you stand out from the crowd.

Ps. Have you started following me on twitter, facebook and posterous yet? No time like the present 🙂
Great post Dave and a great story.
Makes me think a great story, your own business story, can inadvertently act as that ‘hook’ with clients as well; forget
the salesman ‘spiel’.
It shows honesty, immediately builds a realtionship, breeds trust and shows your passionate about your product or service. Qualities I believe are crucial in engaging and building relationships with prospects.
Having attended a number of your workshops I can tesitfy that the content, value, knowledge and the way in which you share your information so upfront and passionately is excellent and I recommend them to any small business looking to learn new and innovative ways to market and build their business.
Thanks for contiuing to share your story and knowledge!
I’ve just newly started in internet marketing and I am currently about to finish a copywriting course. What I’ve learned so far? People do get convinced to buy a product or subscribe to a service partly because of the story behind it especially if it echoes their own story or is in line with what they need.
I do also believe though that for a story to successfully connect with prospects, it needs to be told and presented well.
I have learned (from my Mom’s offline business) that you need to get to the interest of the people to get their business. And you need to keep it real because they are quick to know if you are indeed sincere.
And that is what I have noticed as well when I watched your video. You set the facts straight, how you and the company started, even before they ask you about it. Also, I believe that there are times when some businesses don’t need to say they’re number one on this and that. Let other people toot your horn and that will say a lot about how premium your business is. Simple and willing to deliver. 🙂
Have a great day Dave!
It’s always a great thing when you know more about the person behind the company and not just about the history of the company itself. It adds that vital human nature to any business.
You have a great story, Dave, and I think it was really important that you told it. I had a blast watching it.
Dave you need to get yourself a blog-roll… let me know when you do and I’ll sort you out with some juice.
Love what you’re doing btw.
Michael: Thanks for the kind words.
Jenna: Stories are without doubt are the best way to connect with people.

Vince: Will look into it and thanks for the kind words. We should catch up on Skype sometime soon.

Love your sincere story. It’s true that you have to go through a lot info and false starts to get a true picture of what constitutes excellent marketing. I love to help people improve their website copy and SEO tactics.

Your SEO Coach,

I haven’t gotten to the ‘end’ of my story yet, it is still beginning- but I love the idea of the post, hopefully soon I will have my own story to tell… I started my site out of frustration and needing a place to write and it has just grown from there…. hopefully it will take me far!
That’s true no matter how good a product is or excellent a service is, it can never reach its targeted audience if it is not well-promoted. You got to exhaust all your marketing skills to make a business work…Coaching is definitely needed on this.
I guess most companies always want to put their best foot forward when telling their stories because they think they won’t attract customers if they don’t do it that way.
